Looking to turn night into day in Stuttgart? There are plenty of opportunities, depending on what you're looking for. How about a visit to the Tea House in the Villa Weissenburg Park or to the lovely Karlshöhe beer garden with a view over the city by night, or perhaps you'd prefer to sip a glass of wine in the relaxed atmosphere of one of the wine bars in the “Bohnenviertel” area? If you'd rather dance the night away, you'll be welcome at the city's trendy clubs, lounges and discos.
The younger in-crowd meets in the Waranga Bar on the Kleiner Schlossplatz (Small Palace Square) to spend the evening relaxing with a cool cocktail and a view of the New Palace, followed by a stroll along the Theodor-Heuss-Strasse – the party-lover's Mecca – with its chic scene bars and lounges. One of the most trendy bars is "Suite 212", the first lounge to open on the Theo-Heuss boulevard.
The area of the old party of the city around the Hans-im Glück ("Lucky Hans") Fountain is a particular magnet for night owls. On warm summer evenings the street cafés and garden restaurants here are full to bursting, with an almost Mediterranean atmosphere. The bars around the Wilhelmsplatz and in the "Stuttgarter Westen" are also a favourite meeting place.
The best way to enjoy the nightlife in the heart of the state capital is on foot. Many of the wine taverns, bars, pubs and discos are in the middle of town. And it's no problem getting home with a night bus or taxi, even late at night or perhaps even in the small hours of the morning.
